With 13 large wildfires currently burning in Washington State and more fires in British Columbia, Idaho, and Oregon, our air quality is, of course, being affected. It was a scenario no one likes to think about. A small airplane with nearly a dozen passengers aboard crashed into the Strait of Georgia during a thunderstorm and then burst into flames.

Although we had a dump of rain last week—0.60 inches—fire danger still lurks here and in neighboring communities. We’re four inches short of our average rainfall to date: 21.60 inches. Three major fires continue to burn in western Washington.

The idea was for people to visit a Disaster Hub and talk to the people who know how to prepare: Bainbridge Prepares staff and volunteers. And that’s what happened. More than 120 visitors passed through the Bethany Lutheran Open House between 2 and 4 pm on June 7.

Twenty-three of Bainbridge Prepares’ Wilderness First Responders (Woofers) spent the entire weekend, May 30–31, in a 22-hour crash course at BIFD Station 21 to renew their WFR credentials.

BI's publicly owned, historic Johnson Farm orchard has lots of apples that we can donate to Helpline House food bank, but only if they’re worm-free. To protect them without any chemicals, we need to thin and cover them on June 6.

This is your opportunity to ask question of BP volunteers, learn how to prepare, and find out what services a Disaster Hub will offer after a major incident, like a significant earthquake.

We need your help to make Bainbridge “Tomorrow Ready.” The Tomorrow Ready campaign will fund at least six Functional Exercises for approximately 300 Bainbridge Prepares volunteers to practice rapid activation of emergency response mechanisms.
