Effective disaster response requires good planning, which comes from effective leadership. Your household leaders need to create communication plans, supply plans, transportation plans, and meet-up plans.

The Goal

The goal is for someone in your Household to take on the role of leading your family toward preparedness. If you prefer, split up the different tasks and select multiple leaders. But at least one person needs to be responsible for leading the charge.

The Strategy

  • Designate one household leader or multiple household leaders with different responsibilities.

  • Create a Meeting Places Plan for your household in case you are separated during a disaster.

  • Create a Communications Plan for your household.

  • Create a Supplies Plan for gathering, storing, and refreshing supplies.

  • Create a Transportation Plan for evacuation.

  • Make copies of important documents and financial information. Keep hard copies on a thumb drive and on paper sealed in a plastic bag and store this in your go bag.
