In a large-scale earthquake, the South End is likely to be cut off from the rest of the Island, and residents there want to make sure they will have access to key emergency supplies so they can manage for weeks or longer until roads can be cleared. The community fundraised for materials and construction, and right before the New Year about a dozen people helped build and load a supershed at the Fort Ward Community Hall Disaster Hub.

On Bainbridge Island, we use the Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) Program to help neighborhoods organize and prepare for disasters. To date, more than 54 percent of households on Bainbridge have gone through the program. If your neighborhood is one of the other 46 percent, you need to get connected.

Last Week in Lousiville, at the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Conference, Bainbridge Island Emergency Manager Anne LeSage and BP Program Director Pascal Schuback received the 2025 IAEM-USA Preparedness Award on behalf of the City of Bainbridge Island and the BP Water, Safety, Hygiene (WASH) Team.

The upcoming (2027) expansion of the Bainbridge Island Senior Center will enable the center, which is one of the Island’s Disaster Hubs, to serve full-time as a resilience hub.

The City of Bainbridge Island Emergency Managament Coordinator (EMC) Anne LeSage was just awarded a Regional Citation by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Region 10.

Last Sunday evening, March 24, Bainbridge Prepares hosted a Child Safety and Reunification Town Hall to address the issue of child reunification in disasters on the Island.
