Damage Assessment
The Damage Assessment Team’s goal is to determine the post-disaster status of infrastructure. The team is trained to make accurate assessment’s to prevent further risk to lives and resources.

The Damage Assessment Team is key to our community’s resilience and able to recover after a disaster. The team determines what critical infrastructure is safe to use during the disaster response.
About the Team:
The Damage Assessment Team is trained to make critical assessments in the aftermath of a disaster. They work in an advisory role to inform the Emergency Manager and Fire Chief about how emergency response and recovery might proceed safely.

The Damage Assessment Team works closely with the City’s Emergency Manager to create assessment tools and a rating system for post-disaster infrastructure inspection and determination of safety. In addition DAT members undergo training in damage assessment so they know what signs to look for. Finally, they work with City leadership and the Emergency Manager to prioritize assessment of specific infrastructure.

During activation, the DAT team reports to the Emergency Operations center where it is briefed on deployment priorities. The team then deploys for its assessment mission, reporting directly to the EOC with its findings.

The team is activated within the first few hours following a major event. In addition it may be deployed at the discretion of the Emergency Manager for smaller, more focused events.
